“Come aboard!” was the theme of this year’s Tour of Homes on Saturday, May 18th. Pontoon boats full of guests left Lighthouse Marina for morning or afternoon tours of the 3 homes featured this year, each one completely different and unique.
The first home was located on its own island and looked like a ship on the water. It featured a grand staircase, beautiful moldings, and lake views from every window that made everyone feel like they were on a ship. Its owners were building a new home on the site of the former Brantley Manor and wanted a home nearby on the lake in order to oversee construction. Guests visiting this unique home enjoyed refreshments around an endless pool overlooking the “big water” of Lake Murray.
The third home was located on a point, with awesome views of the dam and the skyline of Columbia from several rooms and balconies. This homeowner loves all things bronze. Guests found the back lawn to be a child’s paradise, with unique bronze statues of children at play, and inside, a sea turtle and life-size eagle in flight. The pride of these homeowners is their family, and grandchildren enjoy a media room and a fully-equipped disco room with a stage to entertain their grandparents. The second home was a “home in a home”. Its owners built a new home adjacent to a beloved lake home built in the 1940s. Guests entered a craftsman style home and found themselves in a beautifully wood paneled home original to the property. Doors from the original home were used by the owners to bring that history into the beautiful new home, and the two were attached with a long airy glass foyer. The owners of this unique home truly know how to preserve the past for the future.
This year’s tour featured a long ride on the water, and guests were able to enjoy things of interest pointed out by their captains. Lake Murray’s natural wonders make this more than just a tour of homes.
LMA extends its sincere gratitude first and foremost to the gracious homeowners who made this Tour of Homes possible. We also want to thank all the volunteers, boat captains, guides, Sea Cadets, and everyone who worked to make this experience first class. Lighthouse Marina once again provided the perfect launch site, which made it easier to greet guests and get them safely and efficiently on the boats. As in years past, the Lake Murray Power Squadron provided inspectors prior to the tour to certify that each boat was in compliance with all safety regulations. An orientation cruise was provided by the Southern Patriot for boat captains, tour guides, and volunteers prior to the tour. During the tour, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was on standby to assist if needed.
The Tour of Homes is unique to Lake Murray Association. LMA is the only organization that hosts such an event. During all of the tours over the years, we have been able to work with exceptional homeowners and offer our guests great experiences on Lake Murray. This fund raiser enables the Association to continue working on behalf of all those who love Lake Murray and want it to continue being truly the Jewel of the Midlands.
Our sincere thanks again to all who made this event possible!
