FROM THE LAKE MURRAY ASSOCIATION OFFICE: This update covers the one week period from April 28, 2008 through May 4, 2008. The graphs below are of PROVISIONAL DATA for the following parameters for the period of 4/27/08 through the morning of 5/5/08: Saluda River discharge at the Chappells gauge (main tributary to Lake Murray), Little River discharge at the Little River Near Silverstreet gauge (another tributary to Lake Murray), Bush River discharge at the Bush River Near Prosperity gauge (yet another tributary to Lake Murray), reservoir level at Lake Murray, Saluda River discharge below Lake Murray Dam and Saluda River DO below Lake Murray Dam. As can be seen from the below graphs, inflow to Lake Murray decreased this period due to recession of runoff in the basin and fluctuating releases from Buzzards Roost Hydro at Lake Greenwood. Reservoir level began the period at about el. 358.68 ft. and ended the period at about el. 358.68 ft. Saluda Hydro was utilized to meet downstream flow requirements and for reservoir management, and was available to meet system reserve requirements. On Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, SCE&G generated as scheduled to accommodate instream flow demonstrations associated with the Saluda Hydro Relicensing Process. Indicated DO in the tailrace generally was in the range of about 7.5 – 10 mg/l. The turbine vents on all units are closed. Planned generation for this week: On Saturday, May 10, SCE&G plans to release 10,000 CFS during the day to provide downstream flow for the annual Canoeing for Kids event. Going forward, SCE&G will operate Saluda Hydro to manage the reservoir level, while balancing inflow, municipal water withdrawals, and evaporation rate in the reservoir; and dissolved oxygen, agreed upon minimum flow, and agency or other requested discharges in the lower Saluda River; with system reserve and emergency generation requirements. Please contact me if you have any questions.
